Every summer the Don Bosco oratory runs GREST (Gruppo Estivo, the summer club) for primary and lower secondary school children (aged 6 to 14): the summer "version" of the oratory, made for the youngest. Because GREST is part of the oratory, and the oratory does not go on holiday in summer!
A summer activity with real educational value, built on children of different ages living and playing side by side with their leaders. Together with Don Enrico they play, learn, work and have fun, with a special focus on the Christian faith.
The summer club starts in mid-June, as soon as school finishes, and runs all summer until the first days of September, offering parents a real service that meets a concrete need of families once the school year is over.
The day begins early, at 8:30, with a moment of prayer, followed by 30–40 minutes of schoolwork during which the leaders help the children with their holiday homework. Then comes the snack break. After the break there are team games or sports.
Thursday is a special day, set aside for Mass, which all the children attend before the snack and the games.
In the afternoon, after a moment of prayer, the children are taken to the beach at La Fortezza. Back at the oratory there is always time for more play before the parents arrive.
At the end of July and the end of August there are two days out at the "Le Caravelle" water park.
In early August there is a week-long summer camp in the mountains. One day is set aside for a hike in the surrounding area, while the other days are filled with activities much like those at the oratory: treasure hunts, Olympics, moments of prayer, games, Mass…
During the GR.EST. months there are also competitions in various Olympic sports, with a prize-giving at the end of the summer: cups and medals for all the participants.
